Mirrors requirements.

    Introduction
In order to have your Caudium and Camas mirror site listed on the Caudium Website, please have a look to the following requirements.
The Caudium Group needs reliable mirrors. Mirrors are important part of our services. There is many packages and files that Caudium Group gives : Caudium Webserver, Camas Webmail, Pike snapshots, binaries, ...
In order to provide a good quality of service, we need some specials requirements.

Requirements
  • At least a 1Mbit/s link to the Internet
  • Unlimited traffic
  • At least 2G of free space (3G for caudium + pike snap)
  • Fixed IP when using rsync mirroring method
  • FTP protoocol or HTTP (we do not require both)
We also appreciate (but do not require) that mirroring is done using rsync method. For that, we require that the rsync client has an fixed ip.

How to become a mirror
You have to follow these steps :
1- Set up ftp or http server
You will have to setup anon ftp (if you use FTP) or HTTP. If you use http, you will have to ask us about what host names you will have to setup.
2- Chose what kind of mirror
If you wish to setup an Caudium source only mirror or a full Caudium + Pike mirror.
3- Chose the mirror method
Prefered method is rsync but, you can use anonftp from main ftp site, but notice that ftp connections are shaped so mirroring 3G will takes hours.
4- Contact Caudium Maintainer
Contact kiwi at caudium dot net for authorization of mirroring. You will need to answer the following questions:
  • Timeliness : specify your mirroring frequency. we require a mirroring update once a day.
  • Accuracy: specify what your are mirroring with what software you will be using. Use mirroring software that download only the new file and that removes only files that no longer exist on the primary server. We recommand rsync for that and we can profide a trivial script for that.
  • Where: it is mirrored, eg what URL the data will be available.
  • Location: Specify what city/country should be listed on the Caudium web site.
  • Company: Specify the compagny/organization/... that hosts the mirror.
  • Rsync IP: If you use rsync a mirror method, give the IP addres you use to rsync from.

Admin duty
  • Admin should be subscribed to caudium-general mailing lists.
  • Scheduled downtimes should be announced on caudium-general mailing lists.
  • IP address should be notified in advance too.
  • It is essential that the Caudium Group can contact the sysadmin responsible for the mirror server and get a quick response.
